Fintech & payments

Fintech engineering for African rails: mobile money first, not an afterthought.

Information Village builds fintech and payment systems for African markets from Kampala: mobile-money integrations (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), gateway integrations (Flutterwave, PesaPal), e-commerce platforms selling across five countries, and financial tracking products. Our systems process real payments daily, with product MVPs from $8,000.

African payments are their own discipline

Cards are the exception here; mobile money is the rail. That changes engineering: asynchronous confirmation flows, reconciliation against operator statements, retry logic for unstable networks, and UX designed for users who think in mobile-money terms. Stripe-first patterns imported from the US fail quietly in this market - we build for the rails people actually use.

  • Mobile-money collections and disbursements (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money)
  • Gateway integrations: Flutterwave, PesaPal, and regional processors
  • E-commerce with multi-currency and multi-country support
  • Financial tracking, wallets and reconciliation systems

Live systems moving real money

Treats N More sells across five countries with 500+ products on a platform we built and operate. GetMyCents tracks personal finances with AI-assisted categorisation. Payment-gateway and financial-infrastructure work runs in production for commercial clients across the region. When we quote a payments build, the estimate comes from systems we already run, not from a blog post - and the edge cases in the quote (settlement delays, callback retries, operator downtime) are ones we have already handled in production, billed once, instead of discovered on your launch week.

Security and correctness, by default

Money systems fail differently: a rounding bug is a financial incident, a security hole is a headline. Our fintech builds ship with idempotent payment handling, full transaction audit trails, reconciliation tooling, and the same autonomous security monitoring (SENTINEL) that protects our own infrastructure. Every financial flow gets unit, integration and end-to-end tests before it touches production.

From idea to first transaction

A payments MVP follows a predictable path. Week one and two: scoping - which rails, which currencies, collections or disbursements, and the compliance posture your market requires. Weeks three to six: the core build with sandbox integrations, so money moves in test mode early and every edge case (timeouts, reversals, duplicate callbacks) is exercised before real funds are at stake. Weeks seven to ten: production onboarding with the operator or aggregator, reconciliation tooling, and a soft launch with capped volumes. The first real transaction is a milestone we schedule, not an accident. From there, retainer support keeps pace with operator API changes - and they do change - without your team firefighting.

Common questions

Which payment providers do you integrate?
MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money directly, plus aggregators including Flutterwave and PesaPal. Provider choice depends on your market, settlement needs and fees - we advise before integrating.
How much does a payment integration cost?
As part of a build, mobile-money or gateway integration typically adds $500 to $3,000 depending on whether you need collections, disbursements or both. Full fintech MVPs start at $8,000.
Can you work with clients outside Uganda?
Yes - our platforms already operate across multiple African countries, and we work remotely with international founders building for African markets.
How do you test payment flows before launch?
Everything runs against operator sandboxes first: timeouts, reversals, duplicate callbacks and partial failures are all exercised in test mode. Production launch starts with capped volumes and live reconciliation before full traffic.
What about compliance and licensing?
We build the technology; licensing depends on your model and market. We flag when a model likely needs a licence or a partnership with a licensed operator, and our aggregator integrations (Flutterwave, PesaPal) let many products launch under the aggregator's compliance umbrella.
